Essentials GG FAQ
Do players need to install it?
No. It runs on the server (or in singleplayer). Menus are ordinary chests and screens, so vanilla clients see everything.
Why does /msg still look like vanilla?
Because it is vanilla's. Essentials GG never replaces commands that the game or another mod already has. Its private messages are /m, /pm, /dm and /reply, or /ess msg. You can give any command other names in commands.json.
How do I move from EssentialsX?
- Copy the
plugins/Essentialsfolder of your old server next to the new one, or intoconfig/essentialsgg/import/. - Run
/ess migrate essentialsx. It shows what it found and changes nothing. - Run
/ess migrate essentialsx confirmto import homes, money, nicknames, mutes, warps and the spawn. Players who already joined keep their data and get their missing homes. - Bans need no import: copy the old
banned-players.jsonover. It is the same file.
Do I need LuckPerms?
No. /perm handles players, groups, wildcards and prefixes. If LuckPerms is installed it works as well, on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge.
I changed a message and it came back.
Only files you never edited are updated with the mod. If you see a .json.old file in config/essentialsgg/lang/, it is a copy from an older version, kept in case you had edited it.
Where is the data, and how do I back it up?
In the world folder: <world>/data/essentialsgg/. Backing up the world backs up Essentials GG. It is saved every minute and when the server stops.
Can I turn off what I don't use?
Yes. Each module has a switch in config/essentialsgg.json and each command a line in commands.json. Something switched off is really gone: no commands, no background work.
A muted player can still use /me.
Mutes cover chat and Essentials GG's private messages. Vanilla's /msg and /me belong to the game; take them away with your permissions mod if you need to.
Is there a shop or auction house?
No, on purpose. Essentials GG stays small. Other mods can use its economy for that.
