Colored Nether Portals FAQ

The menu doesn't open.

Sneak and right-click the portal itself (not the obsidian) with an empty main hand. Check that enabled is true in config/colorednetherportals.json and that Mycel is installed.

Does the server need the mod?

Only if you want other players to see your colors. On a server without it, colors are kept on your computer and only you see them. The menu's title bar tells you which case you are in.

Can players without the mod join?

Yes. They see purple portals and can still color them with a dye for everyone who has the mod. Players with the mod can also join servers without it.

My portal went back to purple.

When a portal goes out (broken frame, or an explosion), its color is forgotten. Light it again and pick a new one.

Do colors cost performance?

Hardly. Static colors cost nothing after they are set. Animated portals within 64 blocks redraw a few times a second; turn them off server-wide with allowAnimated if you want.
