Better Server List configuration
The file
After the first launch with the mod installed, you will find config/betterserverlist.json next to your other configs (in .minecraft/config for the default launcher). It looks like this:
{
"enabled": true,
"replaceScreen": true,
"showLan": true,
"confirmDelete": true,
"debug": false
}
Your lists themselves are not in this file; see where your servers are saved below.
Settings
| Key | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
enabled |
true |
Master switch. Set it to false and Multiplayer opens the vanilla screen until you flip it back. Your lists are kept. |
replaceScreen |
true |
Open Better Server List instead of the vanilla multiplayer screen. With false you get the vanilla screen with a Better list button in its corner, so you choose each time. |
showLan |
true |
Look for LAN worlds on your network and list them at the bottom. Takes effect the next time the screen opens. |
confirmDelete |
true |
Ask before deleting a server, a category or a list. Turn it off if you trust your clicks. |
debug |
false |
Write loading, saving, syncing and screen swaps to the game log (lines tagged [debug]). Handy when reporting a problem; leave it off otherwise. |
Changing settings
You have four options, pick whichever is closest:
- Edit the file with the game closed, then start the game. Simple and foolproof.
- Edit the file and reload live with
/mycel reload betterserverlistin a world. No restart needed. See commands. - Change it live with a command, e.g.
/mycel set betterserverlist confirmDelete false(needs operator permission, which you have in singleplayer with cheats on;/mycel get betterserverlistshows every value). - Use the config screen from the mod list (Forge and NeoForge). Same five settings, with reset buttons.
Where your servers are saved
config/betterserverlist-servers.jsonholds your lists, categories, pins, notes, play history, and the sort and filter you picked. It is plain JSON, so you can back it up or copy it to another computer. Saves are atomic: a crash never leaves half a file.servers.dat(the vanilla file) is kept in step with every change, one entry per address, so the vanilla screen and the game without this mod still have all your servers.
Broken file?
If config/betterserverlist.json gets mangled, the mod logs a warning and falls back to defaults rather than crashing. If betterserverlist-servers.json no longer parses, it is kept next to the new one as betterserverlist-servers.json.broken and your lists start over from servers.dat, which still has every server. The screen tells you when that happens.
